Thanks RoadRunner! Yeah... I agree on the oil. I was quoted today, 12 months on the warranty for remanufactured engine.... Hope that isn't true... Sorry about my writing right now... Just a bit po'ed. I will see what I can do on the water pump as well as the block part numbers. I hope MR Bill is reading and can offer some assistance here. I hope it doesn't take 3week to ???? to get parts. More to follow... Keep it coming guys/gals and THANKS!! VG

About two weeks ago, I heard a knock out of my engine (31,500 miles) and made an appointment to have it looked at. Today I was shown that it was a wrist pin that had come loose from the connecting rod. I should have the car back on Friday. The dealership is paying for a rental (Neon). So far I haven't had any problems as far as warrenty.
I bought the car new in August of 2000 and use Mobil 1 with Fram filters. Everything looked clean inside.

The number of miles in the test drive don't matter, but the way they were driven does...... Hard right turns at WOT anyone? ...Or how bout hard right turns at WOT (w/ motor possibly being abnormally low on oil caused from the factory defective leaking gasket)?

Josch, The oil level was on the money full. The leak was just a bit of a mess maker in my garage. No risk to the car. I also checked it again at the dealership yesterday even they had the top end pulled apart. The oil look as it did the last time I changed it... Clean...
I really wonder about the joy ride after reflecting in what the Tech said about the whole ordeal. I called Ford Customer Care and get the feeling that I'm going to be rail roaded on the rental car.... The lady I talked to wasn't too friendly and got kind of pissy with me about the rental saying Ford doesn't owe me one.
Well if I was only going to have to go without my car for 3-4 days then no big deal, but 4 weeks or more? She told me they would call me back tomorrow night with a decision on the matter. Is Ford trying to run off loyal owners?
Still no word today from the dealership on anything.
The saga continues... Damn I'm sick of this mess.

Well things have gone totally wrong. I am probably done with Ford at this point for good... I have never owned anything else... The best the Ford Customer Care line could do with the rental car is pay all but 25 a day.... So 30 X 25 = $750 for 30 days with a rental... If it goes past 30 days.... I pickup the whole tab. I tried being professional and courteous in my dealings with them just as with anyone else. I told the rep. if that was Fords standing then my family would take their loyalty elsewhere. I told them how many Fords we have had and told her it was evident that we were just peas in a pod. Looks like Ford is hell bent on becoming number 3 as far as the big 3 are concerned. The rep said that 3-4 weeks was the best they would do time wise, even though I told her I had evidence that a Long block was available to solve the problem... They just DON'T care! I tried reasoning with them on the matter and how I feel all of these problems are a result of a "joy ride." I haven't been this angry and frustrated in years. I am in shock at how they are treating this mess and me the customer. She told me that if I had ALL of my service done at the dealership that they would have provided a rental.... I told her that was CRAZY! If our financial situation was better I think I would get a lawyer and challenge them on the joy ride aspect. The only weapon I have is my loyalty, which seem to be worthless to Corporate Ford as well as this dealership. I am totally sorry for ranting about this on the board as I know Ford bashing is NOT viewed on as a good thing, I just don't have anyone else to discuss this with that share some of the same experiences, both good and bad of owning an SVT Contour. Thanks for letting me vent. VG

Couple things:
First, the dealership will not even tear apart your engine to see what is wrong. Those days are long gone.
Second, your replacement, factory-rebuilt engine will have a 12 month/12,000 miles warranty, unless your new vehicle warranty is longer...

I have been saying this ever since I bought my SVT. I love my car and am going to enjoy every moment we have together, but this will be the last Ford I spend my $$ on. FoMoCo's svc department and customer service have sealed that deal!@#%

Thanks for the info Sandman333. Hey what ever happened to Chanute AFB as it was... I attended Tech school there back in 89.. LOL I know they closed it... Did they do something useful with the ole base and its airpark?
I talked to the Dealer again and gave them the part numbers for the long block. I want to say thanks again to Procyon for pm'ing me and giving me info. I can't believe we have to do the dealerships work and dig up part numbers.... Appears as if a new long block will be in next Tuesday, so thing may get much better. I hope!
Thanks for the comments!

Just wanted to add my two cents here. I had lost an engine last year, from racing a Bimmer, which I beat . Anyways. I get off the highway and hear this knocking noise. I know right away what it is and the potty mouth starts full bore! The dealership has the car for two full weeks while they tear it down and have a tech from Detroit come out. All the tech does is take an oil sample and flys back to Detroit. A couple of days later I get the thumbs up that Ford will replace the bent exhaust valves! They also took care of 2/3 of the rental car bill. I do not care for my local Ford garages and felt very lucky at the time. I agree with a lot of the posts I have seen about the service departments. Hell, I was a credit analyst for Ford Credit for many years and still got treated like ****e. I mean, there were times when I would be at a dealership auditing their books and they were still jerks. Oh-well...pent up fustration. Thanks for letting me vent. Brian

VolcanoGod,
Looks like a letter to your local District Attorney is in order.
You need to complain to them about how you are being treated, and that the knock was diagnosed as a result of their road test.
Also make it clear that you are NOT responsible for the repairs for the knock, and the rental that FORD provided for you.
