ALT,
There comes a point in your life where the "my car is faster than your car attitude" just doesn't cut it any more. When I was 17, I had a 79 Z28....I didn't car how it looked, I cared how fast it was and who I could beat with it. Now that I'm a "little" older, my priorities have changed. I want something that is quick, comfortable and reflects more of what point I'm at in my life. I understand exactly what Antonio is saying. Your Neon is a great bang for the buck car, but when you want to take your parents or friends out to dinner, you don't all want to climb into a Neon......I'm not ripping on you, I'm just saying that when you get a little older, and start making a little more $$$, you'll understand.

Your time will come.
I fully agree with Antonio and Moe. I, too, no longer care how fast my SVT is, or a car I currently own.
My next car if I can afford it....
1. German
2. Luxurious
3. Comfortable
4. Good looking - STOCK
5. Modestly quick
No more, no less.
Different strokes for different folks, so stop talking down on people that don't choose the 'NEON' as their next car.
The big difference between say a 328 and a Neon.... Yeap, the Neon will smoke the 328, but NOT if the 328 driver decides NOT to race you. Also, YOU can't just quite make the Neon comfortable and luxurious at will, something the 328 already is.
In a lot of people's eyes and mine included, the days of econo pocket rockets are over. Not 'over' in general, just on this website...

Status or not, BMW's and Audi's are excellent vehicles. They carry a quality feel that you canno get with an SRT-4 or an Evo/STi. They are just different and some people don't care about the quickest 1/4 mile time.
I love the SRT-4 for what it is, but I would have a hard time giving up my IS300 for one even at $10k less.

First of all, ATL, not ALT. Secondly, I know 9 people in Atlanta that own SRT-4's, at 25 years old, I'm the youngest and the only one without kids of my own (most have gray hair). My mom who is 47 this year drives 2002 Trans-AM WS6, she appreciates a fast car as much as I do, reguardless of whether or not it was built from a neon chassis (for the record there is not ONE neon badge on this vehicle from the factory). I see the point your attempting to convey and I understand that you're not trying to be insulting. I cleared $40K working in Mid-Town Atlanta (where 3 and 5 series BMW's are more common than Accords), wearing a tie to work every day last year. That's enough to buy a more expensive car (that I could beat with my 'neon'), but that's not what I want. I'll cut to the chase: My point is, that not everyone goes the same direction in life.

If he wants a new car that's economical, fast, and with a good aftermarket, then why hate on that? Because he isn't as materialistic as the likes that want to have their car speak for who they are?? PLEASE! Tim, you're in the same boat you were in before with your SVT. Instead of hearing, "It's just a Contour!", you'll hear "It's just a Neon!" now.

That's what I was trying to say.
Apologies for the ATL/ALT typo.

Read Moe's post over and over and over and over and over...
Maybe you'll finally get it into your head.

Materialisum at it's best. You need something that makes you feel more important when you go to dinner I guess. My point is that you should make who you are. If you need a car or any other status symbol to accomplish this for you, that says a lot. BUT, if you are truely refined to the point where you are looking for what the BMW or the like can give you....that's a different story all together.
Like it or not, the SRT4 is like an CSVT in many ways. It's based on a commuter car, but built for a performance crowd.

It's not about that. I'm gonna quote Moe here... Read the 1st sentence especially...
----------------- There comes a point in your life where the "my car is faster than your car attitude" just doesn't cut it any more. Now that I'm a "little" older, my priorities have changed. -----------------
Meaning we want to get away from the boy-racer image that currently revolves around us. I don't want to street race anymore, I have no desire to go to the drag strip with my daily driver anymore... I just want to go to work w/out rattles, w/out worrying my worrying about my water pump, without the Honda boys revving their motor, and etc.

This is exactly correct, and it's time to UPGRADE. In ATL's case, he wanted to upgrade through SPEED. In my, Moe's, and Antonio's case, we want to upgrade through luxury, comfort, SERVICE and etc...
Status is the last thing on my mind (can't speak for Antonio or Moe here), sure, it's not gonna hurt telling someone I drive a BMW, but that's not the point. It's all in what you're looking for. Granted, a new Altima will be faster than a 328 and hell, it'll run right up there with a E36 M3, but am I an Altima driver? Hell no.
It's all in what you're looking for, different strokes for different folks.

Good point, and I agree. The next car I do buy will be along the lines of an upper end Audi or BMW simply for the reasons you listed. It's the people who place a ton of importance on how much a vehicle cost or in it's name or any other trendy crap. Sorry, my uncle just purchased an H2 for that reason and it burns me up. He got it because it was trendy I wasn't trying to be a jerk, there are just somethings that set me off. BACK ON TOPIC.... Test drive the cars you listed and go from there. I'm sure a few names would fall from the list after the 1st TD and make the choice easier.
