I'm only getting the hang when driving the car and shifting - not when the car is stationary and I'm simply reving the engine.

I wouldn't think so.

A bad TPS can, though.

TH is a known problem. (PCM programming for emissions - blech!)
There is a fix for it in the FAQ area.

Yes it can be much more pronouced while moving.

I had pretty bad throttle hang and it went away when I replaced the TPS.

But in that case it had gotten worse than what would be considered normal for that car.

So if the throttle hang suddenly gets really bad it could be the TPS, but don't expect a TPS replacement to fix the normal throttle hang.

Thanks,
Rob

It's designed to throttle hang.
It won't do it while revving while idling.
It's for emissions control that the engine takes a few seconds to come back to idle speed when driving...
BUT it is a major pain in the but!!

What are some of the symptoms of the TPS being bad? I can't keep dumping money into this car.

Hi,

This is not your classic throttle hang. I already have the new black tube configuration in place. This symtom is car in motion, press the clutch and the rpm's not only hang but increase slightly before they come back down. This never ever happened prior to the mtx tranny work I had done and now it's just huge. I REALLY don't think it's the classic throttle hang problem, as I said I have the upgrade in place. Another symptom to a bad TPS is throttle hang at highway speeds. It's a cheap sensor to purchase and I'll let you know what happens as soon as a get it changed.

I still need the install information.

Rob,

What you descibed is the classic Throttle Hang to the "T".

Search for other decriptions of Throttle Hang and you will see you are not alone.
My Duratec ATX will do it, if I shift into N while coasting.
You would think it would go immediately to idle,
but it actually rises and then falls slowly.
