uh, the valve cover is not plastic. unless u got some special non melting plastic one....
The valve cover is plastic.  Obviously you have never taken one off the Contour.

mines been off to check the cams.. its metal dude. i don't think when u scratch plastic a nice ugly metal mark is there under that gross ass grey paint.
