I have a 1998.5 Contour SVT and I have had problems with the transmission for a very long time. It started a year and some months ago. First my third gear started to grind and soon after my gears are much more slushy. About a year ago I took it to a transmission place and they replaced a few things and everything was fine for about a month and then it all started again. I was told that this was a common problem with Ford Contours of my year (1998.5) Is there any information someone could speak of to enlighten me about my problem.

I have one word for you... syncro's! Your syncro's have been slowly dieing. Have you tried running the cocktail? That seems to help prevent this issue, and some that have the smae issues as you do now have said that they have seen some improvment.

When was the last time you changed the tranny fluid? Miles that is.
