I have had the case of the miracle tank happen like you said. 200 miles on a half a tank. 30 miles later and it was at 1/4 tank. It has a strange way of working itself out.

I thought I was getting some phenominal gas mileage the other day with my Ranger 4.0 (not a good engine for gas mileage) when I still had a half tank after going 225 miles. The next night, I walked out to my truck and my f-i-l was putting gas in my wifes car from a 5 gallon can of gas. Turns out that he put 5 gallons in my truck 2 nights before. So much for my great gas mileage! smile

But I won't because I know that doing that may cause some problems with the engine not to mention the fuel filter! wink

I think I drove for 40 miles with the warning light once with my contour. Not by choice, mind you.

Good lord, I once got 410 miles with my SVT, though the gas light was on for the last 20 miles, while I sweated it out trying to find a gas station in the middle of nowhere.

My best tank was about 410 miles as well, with about 35 of them after the light. I regularly go 25 with the light on, so that's nothing to sweat at all.

The "gas light" at least on my car looks like a little gas pump. If you want to know if you have one, it should light up when you turn on the key to the position just before you engage the starter. That is assuming your bulb isn't burnt out. laugh

I get 200 miles or just a little over by an indicated half tank. I fill it up when I get around 300 miles on the trip odometer. After figuring my gas mileage, I usually find that I could have made 390 to over 400 miles on the tank but I don't like to run the gas level down and get crap in the gas lines. laugh
