Last saturday I was taking off from a light, shifting from 1 - 2 a grinding occured. So since the tranny and motor was replaced last July, I got nervous and shut the car down. Today I called the Dealership and a service specialist told me .... "I don't know, but it's bload up for sure!" After hearing his choice of words, I really was concerned that he was the one working on my SVT. Then he proceeded to tell me the tranny would not be covered under warrenty due to the fact that I was 1,000 Miles over the 12,000 mile warrenty on the new parts. quoted me around $2,900 ... Something sounds strange. I know I drive a lot, and might be harder on a clutch than normal... but come on. He would not tell me what is exactly wrong with it.. "but it's broad up for sure"... any suggestions from somebody with alittle more experience than me would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: Ford is sending an engineer out to determine if there has been abuse on my part to break the tranny. Service manager says that he has never seen a Contour SVT in the shop for tranny problems except for the one that I own. "ya right" It does not look good for me..... Have a great day guys!

Sometimes my tranny grinds too....mines rebuilt by Terry haines....My sugestion to you...if it still drives well, switch tranny fluids...go with the RED Line MTL brand,,,,Im hearing Really good things about it because it has friction modifier built into the chemical composiiton (mixed in). Check out the threadt started by DemonSVT. Also be a littel descriptive....were you shifting hard/fast or slow? Could be as simple as clutch.

I'm glad they're investigating it for you. "Hmm...I haven't seen it, haven't heard it, and surely haven't driven it...but I'm sure it's blowd up. $2,900 please. Thank you, come again." I'm not buyin' it. Good luck!

This is very easy to get over on. Every Dealership does this and I don't know why.
This type of problem doesn't occur overnight, and happens with time.
If you can get them to agree with this thinking, then you can get them to agree that the malfunction had to happen DURING the warranty period and your symptoms, which are caused by the malfunction, are just appearing now.
How many miles are on your SVT ?

Thank you for the advice RoadRunner. That was a great idea.... and it worked. I spoke with the engineer and he agreed with me..... they said that they would pay for a new tranny but not clutch. I mentioned that I would like to put a better clutch in. Of course not due to all of the ponies under the hood, but for the simple fact that I am hard on clutches. Because of future mods that I am planning on installing... the Spec II with a torque rating of 340 would be sufficent. Although I think that I would love the feel and grip of a stage III. Are there any set backs with the application of having a stage III on an SVT with light mods untill charger is installed. Or is it just a waiste of money right now... Since the tranny is out of the car and I have to pay $1073.00 for labor allready, might as well add a Fidanza/Quaife. No charge for Flywheel, and LSD is only an extra $117.00 labor. My cousin says that it is too many mods to the driveline for this SVT. But... I would feel more secure hearing it from you guys. THANKS AGAIN RoadRunner

HAHA, they should take a look at my service records.
First one at 18k. Second at 30k. Third at 48k.

You've got the right idea. If you're planning for more power, and you've got the transmission openend up anyway, (assuming you've got the cash) go for the upgrades. I'm sure there will be others here to support you on your decision.

What dealership is doing the work? FluiDSVT is another Denver local w/an SVT and he's on his 3rd tranny. 4th goes in very soon. Oh and we have a local place that can lighten the flywheel to 16lbs for around $60 or so.

John Elway Ford off Colorado BLVD and Colfax is turning the wrenches. Thanks for the info on your hookups for the flywheel, but I decided to just put a Fidanza on. I appreciate all the feedback thank you.
