Just curious where most people temp gauge sits... mine seems LOW (98 2.5)
it works, it goes up if i sit for a long time, but
i drive 30 minute home everynight @ about 75 mph (125 kph) stop start etc etc... and I sit between the low and the N in normal
I used to run hotter, but a company I deal with at work sells oil addatives, so I been using a bottle have gave me you add a 35mm film case full every oil change, he says you can drive around with no oil (pffffft!) but it brought me down from between the O and R to below the N
supposidly the stuff doesnt use teflon either which fouls sensors... 20 bucks Canadian for like 20 oil changes.. cheap.. seems to work :p

mine never gets above "no", even when idling for long periods...low temp just makes the engine slightly less efficient. at least you're not running hot....by staying cooler, your engine will last much longer.

My cars temp gauge sits low, seeing that it says nothing on the gauge (normal) all I can say is that if were a fuel gauge, it would sit between 1/8-1/4. Now on July 28th, 2000 w/ 4,771 miles on my car, I added one bottle of waterwetter and I think that has something to do with my running cooler, also it could have something to do with all the synthetic additives I've added to my car, 3 bottles in 30K, along with Mobil 1 since 6K

My gauge sits between the R and M in NORMAL in usual cruising at any speed. If I'm reduced to driving in stop and go city type at 70+ deg F, or crusing the car lots the temp needle will swing up to between the A and L, the fan comes on and the needle returns to the R to M area within a minute. At least I know its working. I expressed my concern to the dealer a few months ago when it was in for an oil change. They tried to get it to overheat by letting it idle with the A/C on. It never seems to heat up with the A/C on because the fan is running! Anyway, the service dept. said that it is not uncommon for a gauge to read a little higher as it gets older because of the resistance in the gauge. Seemed logical to me. I just turned 80k miles last week.

Jward, my needles is similar to yours. it sits between r and m but closer to M during normal operation but in traffic or really hot days it will sit around A or L until I return to a reasonable driving speed. The only time it's passed the Normal area of the guage and hit the red was with a broken water pump. I am knocking on 100k and my Tour is working better than ever. I do plan on adding redline water wetter whenever (if ever) my coolant level drops.
