a pinto or escort. either one would be pretty easy beat in a race with GTI. that is if the pinto hasnt had a 289 wedged in it.

Well I wouldn't restore that car, prolly better off finding an old DeLorean. But suit your self. Try www.fordexp.com or http://fordexp.kicks-ass.net/ . Those guys might be able to help you find some part. IMHO it would be more worth your while to put some Cosworth parts on the car and suprise some people with the preformance. I knew a guy who used to race one on the weekends in Walles. He tried to get the back end to step out but with no results. Finally we found a roundabout and he pulled the e-brake at about 45 mph. We heard a really loud sort of grinding sound. We took a look and the tires had takes some of the asphalt up, the tires just wouldn't let go. BTW those exp sites have been having some trouble lately, dunno if they are working right now.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question. I think they used the 1.6L I4 and the 2.3L I4 in escorts. And this 2.3L is not the one that was in the Merkur, it is not easily superchanrged.
