I've experienced the same problem you did, and projectSHO89 is right on track. My tour would drop below 500 rpm when I would come to a stop, and it would sit there and sputter until eventually stalling. I would have to drop it in neutral and keep a foot on a gas to keep it above 1000 rpm.

(Hopefully not making up parts, just trying to remember the problem and solution off the top of my head)
As I recall the first problem was that the valves for the air flow were gunked up and not able to function properly, these were cleaned and it ran ok for about 3 hours. The main problem was that the MAF Air flow sensor was also gunked up and that needed to either be replaced or cleaned. Rather than shell out the money to the dealer for a new sensor, I went the cleaning route and it's been running fine since. Hopefully this leads you to a solution to the problem.
