Is it a bad idea to switch back to dino oil if you've been using synthetic oil? confused

Thanks

Won't hurt anything, but why would you want to?

I just picked up a 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 5W-30 (the new "SuperSyn") stuff for $17.88. It's on sale for Father's Day at Wal Mart.

Get this:

1 qt price: $4.22
5 qt price: $17.88
6 qt price (case of 1 qt bottles): $28.62

Do the math on that one. Tell me if it makes sense. I checked all 3 prices at the scanner. But if you want to change for cost - go to your local Wal Mart and stay synth.

To answer your question, I don't think there is any problem with switching from synth to dino.

I wouldn't. I've heard that once you go to synthetic you have to stay.

Nope. From what I see:

1 qt.. 4.22 - base price
5 qt.. 17.88 - 4.22 * 5 should be 21.10 (good deal)
6 qt.. 28.62 - should be 25.32. hmm.. BAD deal..

OH well.. opt for TWO 5 qt deals... laugh

It took me a few minutes to realize what was going on. I bought a 5 qt and a single qt for my next change.

Walmart does this with many items... so be careful.. IIRC I once was in the store (shopping) and they had a 2pack Pringles for 3.00, but if you bought them as singles they were 1.25 each.. Its a marketing ploy that is working for them.. many people now grab the "bulk" items thinking they are saving..

BTW.... I wish they sold a 6 qt jug...

I run synthetic. Mobil Delvac 1 5w40. It's a heavy duty diesel oil. Able to go 10K miles between oil changes on this stuff.

IMHO, I think you should stick to synthetic.
