Well Guys and Gals, I'm about at my wits end here. Since i picked up my car from the tranny shop tuesday (had a clutchmaster stage 1 and fidanza installed) the charging system has not been working at all. I had the alternator tested (they reported a bad diode) and just got done replacing it and still only showing 12.18 volts across the terminals with the engine running and idled up around 3000 rpm. I tested the 3wire harness and it seems o.k. but i have no voltage at the bolt-on terminal at the back of the alternator with the key on and engine off. There should be battery voltage there with the key on right? Is there a fuseable link between the battery and the alternator? Like under the coil pack maybee? or hidden behind the starter? ========Edited for future searchers============== Turns out there is a bolt in fuse under the coil pack inside a plastic case as Terry mentions bellow. If you do not have battery voltage at the main feed line with the key on run and the engine off, check this fuse. You can test for continuity in both ends of the harness up to the fuse, or just pull the fuse with the help of a mirror and test it. here is a pick of the fuse. The fuse was blown, once replaced all was well again. The car is a 98 SE V6

So I take it i have to replace the harness then if the link is burned out? I was afraid that was a fusable link back there.... man what a great place to put it

Cool, I found the 175 amp "little fuse" just behind the coil pack. Ohm meter confirms that it is blown, infinate resistance..... And the Discount Auto around the corner just happend to have one, and only one. Cars back on the road and putting out a solid 14-15 volts. Thanx for the reply guys, you saved my ars!

Bruce what's this fuse look like round cylinder or I'm assuming flat package is it insulated the one you bought?
Thanks Paul
Just searched the web---Autozone, Advanced and Napa online doesn't list the mega fuse as Chilton's calls it.
