today i went and got some food and when i got home i turned down my music to hear my fan running a million miles an hour. i look at the guage and see it creep from normal to the red square and go holy chit! and turn the car off. so i check and i have coolant, so im guessing my waterpump went right? funny not even a thousand miles after i blow my differential. well now i dont know cause i let it cool down and sure enough it wont cool its self it just keeps climbing up. so should i go and drive it and let the cook and let the extended warrenty deal with it or just tow it somewhere and say it needed a waterpump and have the warrenty cover that? stress, so you guys think ill be ok if its lowered and i bring it in? please HELP!

personally i would not risk driving it... get it towed.
have them fix the pump under warranty. or spend the $60 on a better water pump, and do it yourself. This way you know it's the metal one and you know your not getting shafted.

Taking it to the dealer does get it fixed thats true. Only problem, the new pump that they will install will have a plastic impeller. The same thing just happened to me last weekend.... after looking up in the old forum's discovered that Dura Pro water pumps seem to be the best application. Their impeller is not plastic, and after spinning both, Dura Pro also seemed stronger as far as how the bearings reacted to friction... I am not a mechanic.. just wanted to offer my two cents worth.. I bought the pump which came with a gasket, some antifreeze, and gasket sealer for 86.39 at my local Napa Auto Parts. Labor took me about 2.5 hours. "Friendly tip-- when putting the thermostat back in, gasket goes in front" Good Luck

thanks for the replys, i guess ill take it to my friends shop and see if it is the pump. then see how much i can get a metal impellar pump for. i just wanted to make the extended warrenty pay for its self again, lol. my deductable is $100 so im out that either way.

Picked up the NAPA Dura Pro (metal impeller) yesterday, It lists for 82.00. NAPA part # 125-1910. Going to change it this weekend.

Contrary opinion here.
Assuming you still have ESP coverage for a while longer, I would have Ford do the work, even though they will install their "improved white plastic impeller". This suggested in case you may have further problem during warranty period. The white impeller does not seem to have the horrendous failure rate as the original black plastic and replacement metal impeller pumps have some history of infant mortality re shaft seals.
BTW, there should be no problem driving car short distances with failed pump as long as you keep temp out of red by stopping frequently and turning engine off. I had to start/accelerate/coast with engine off/stop/repeat for several times when both of my pump impellers shattered a couple of miles from home. DIY replacement with metal in my case.

well i called napa and i can get a rebuilt for 40 and the dura for 72, my cost. but i suppose i should just bring it to the dealer and have them do it for the $100. right? or is it easy? i dont even know where it is can some one tell me? oh and i just turned 60000 miles last week so i guess if it is the waterpump i made it pretty far.
thanks

ya i was going to try and drive it to the ford dealer today but it is like 20 miles away. i just looked in my computer and it only gives 1 hour to put the pump in. so is it easy or what? and where is it at on the engine? if i try and tow it i would have to take the front bumper/splitter and side effects off so its a big PITA
thanks

Where in your computer do you find 1hr?
You should be able to do the replacement in less time than to limp that far to dealer.
Here's the how-to from the FAQ section on home page: waterpunp
I believe vehicles with mtx offer slightly better access, which is really the only problem with the task.
