Holy BOV, Batman! Is that thing loud or what, Tom?
Nice work on that intake, Tom.
I know SF had a prototype of an in-fender intake that I wanted badly. They couldn't prove any more hp than the next intake, so they dropped the idea. I still would have bought one for the sake of cold air. Again, nice work.

I just see that the exit pipe from the compressor housing is going directly to the throttle body. There is no cooling of the air after being compressed and it is super hot in the engine bay of the contour. I wouldn't touch anything over 5 pounds in that motor with no type of cooling down the air temps.

I am glad to see you all working on turbo setups for the countour though. Does anyone use APexi SAFC to add larger injectors and MAF sensors? Just wondering.

Brent - Street Flight provides a chip for your properly tuned turbo pleasure.
BTW, Tom built up a 3L w/ lower compression to handle boost. He did run into some problems w/ high intake temps (he can explain that) and he's already got his intercooler in the works.

That's the TurboXS RFL (really effin loud) I used to have it on my WRX, until I had problems with it sticking open. It is loud...very imtimidating.

As far as running boost without intercooling, I'd imagine the high intake temps would almost nullify gains caused by the boost. Besides, there's room for an intercooler on anything...it just takes some extra body work on some cars/trucks.

I ran 7psi for a while with this setup. I had an intercooler on the shelf, but it needs to be completed. I will tell you that even without an intercooler I had lots more power!
14.3@102.5 MPH with just that 7psi with no intercooler.
That was with babied take-offs in first gear to save the transmission. No wheel spin, no slipped clutch...just a normal take-off like you'd do on the street. I wanted to see what it would do without any extra transmission abuse. I have a torsen LSD and spec stage3 clutch sitting on the ground next to my transmission right now so I will be able to push for some better times in a few weeks.

My best N/A time was 14.86@95.96 MPH and that was with a full blown take-off with wheel spin all the way through 1st gear and little into second gear.

A gain of almost 7MPH in the trapp speed and a minimal .5 second in the quarter given the conditions is very good for a mild boost non-intercooled SVT. Yes, there is room for improvement that is why I have just about everything for the intercooler now. I will put everything back together, then I will install the intercooler.

Oh you will definitly get more power, there is no doubt about that. Problems are in detonation and pinging that occurs cause the high temps cause sporatic ignition of the fuel in the chambers. You may be able to skip the intercooler if you run a water injection or methanol injection system to drop the temps. Good luck with it all man.

For those who may wonder who this coachflip character is, he's my friend who's building up an SR20DET for his 91 SE-R Sentra, expecting at least 330 to the wheels with boost up around 12psi. Not sayin he knows everything but he's been up to his eyeballs in turbo stuff for over a year figuring out how to set his car up. Just thought I'd let y'all know so maybe he won't seem quite so cocky.

my friend has a sr20det in his se-r, running 17 psi, burned a hole in the 3rd pison from leaning out, at 17, he was around 330, and could take on any corvette around.

You are right about that! I am repairing my engine right now partially because of high intake temps and no intercooler. Nothing drastic, but I already put in better pistons and rings since then. NO more track days without an intercooler for me! lol
