I went to Penzoil 10 min Oil Change in Newmarket. It took them 30 min to change my oil but I was in no rush.
I recently went to get my oil changed at Sears and they told me the previous oil changer (Penzoil) stripped the screw that goes into the oil pan and that the threads inside the oil pan were stripped. Since the oil pan threads were stripped, they had to put in a universial plug because the old screw wouldn't hold.
Is this universial plug good enough (will it hold?) or should I go back to Penzoil and get them to buy me a new oil pan ($382 CDN)? Any other suggestions???
Thanks Derek

Hard one to prove. Could have been sears that screwed your bolt up and are blaiming it on your previous Oil change. That's why alot of places ask you if you have had your oil changed by them last time (cover there ass).

You gotta be retarded to strip that bolt. It is soooo easy to get in and out.

find out the thread pitch of the original plug and get yourself a helicoil kit and install an insert, then you'll be as good or better than new. Should take about 10 minutes at the most.

**** like this happens all the time. You can keep using that plug with no problem, it'd be as good as getting a new pan going to get.

This is why you change oil yourself. I know someone that took their new mustang gt to one of these 10min oil change places and they forgot to put the plug back in. About a mile or two down the road his engine seized and he's now suing for a new engine.

A friend of mine used to work at the local Chevy dealer doing routine maintenance. Then one day he drained the oil out of a Corvette, put the plug in... Is adding oil really that critical? The service manager thought so. Like I said he USED to work at the Chevy dealer...
