Is this a cronic problem with the CSVT?

I've owned two CSVTs and in both of them, the front right wheel bearing went south.

Why? Too much torque in the short shaft to that wheel?

Is this a cronic problem the Ford ought to be recalling? Would a LSD prevent this?

thanx...

Its a common problem...gets worse if you run incorrect offset aftermarket wheels or are very low.....

I own two 98's and both had to have wheel bearings replaced. There are four other guys I work with that have Contours and they all had front wheel bearings replaced. That seems like a extremly high percentage to me.

You may definitely want to look at the recall history. My 95 Contour SE had the wheel barings recalled. Mine left was recalled, andI just had the right one done at 168K....not bad.

LSD would prevent you from noticing it, but as soon as it wears off, the problem would still be there and you would wonder if walls really can talk.

An LSD will do nothing to improve the hub bearing issue, the two components do not affect each other at all......

Yeah, I have a funny sound coming from the front, I thought it was a bad tire, but it sounds like "whump, whump, whump"
I do have aftermarket rims, I wonder if that is the issue.
How much to fix???

I also have weird whump sound from the front of the car. I wonder if someone can explain how long wheel bearings are supposed to last? and how can you tell if you should replace them. what are the symptoms?

thanks! wink
