My cousin and I decided to install my DMD. Everything was going great until my cousin took of the original crankshaft pulley bolt and used the puller without it. This stripped the threading inside the crankshaft pulley. I went to Autozone to rent their equipment in hopes that I could re-thread the crankshaft, but the tool isn't able to get in and start making a new thread. Probably because it has been worn down from over-use. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If I was Bruce Banner, I would have turned into the Incredible Hulk about 300 times by now. Please help me before I loose it!!!! Thanks

Are you sure you cross threaded the crank shaft? the crank is pretty strong. And even if you did you could prob. just retap it. Im sure alot of people are gonna respond to this But im sure this isnt A huge prob. like you might fear it to be.

For future reference, could you post what size/thread pitch tap it was that you had to use.

Why would you need to use the original bolt to pull the pully?

It's what the puller pushes against for leverage. If you don't use the bolt, you'll end up stripping the threads on the crank... hmmmmm

Sorry, its hard to think when your angry. M12 1.5 I believe. It just wouldn't catch because the starting tip was so flat and dull.
After I was able to tap a new thread, everything went pretty smoothe.
I'm just happy to have a little more peace of mind knowing my car won't be so prone to crank whip, now that I have a DMD on my car.

My craftsman puller came with a few end caps to avoid pushing on the threads of the crank. Forget if I used the flat cap or the rounded one - but it got the stock pulley off with no thread issues.
