The "gel" is actually Teflon, and if they uses a Teflon safe cleaner it'll still be there. But, consider this: how good a job did the Teflon do if the TB was as seriously gummed up as yours was? Just add a simple cleaning to the list of preventative maintenance items to do once a year or so.
