Been having problems with the radiator fans.
98 SVT just over 100K miles. Found what I think is the cause today. Under the fuse panel next to the battery over 10 wires in poor shape! Maybe some acid from the battery got to them? Working on it now, I'll keep everyone informed. I would advise everyone to check under there for damage..

Sounds like the same problem as the 99MM03 recall. I just pulled my main ECM/PCM harness and there were wires completely rotted away, one being the power lead to my ECM/PCM. The recall for my car only covered up to 10yrs or 100K miles, whichever came first. I have 127K mi. But I'm still going to contact Ford. The dealer wants $990 for the entire harness, and supposedly won't sell the individual pieces to the 4 piece harness kit.

My two biggest contentions is that 1)my wires certainly didn't deteriorate in teh last 27k miles. These were well at the point of repair quite some time ago. 2)The dealer replaced the front part of the harness already. So they either CAN get individual parts of the harness, or didn't do their job completely and replace the ENTIRE harness (which is rated at over 7 hours of service time.) Either way, Ford (dealer?) has some serious explaining to do... I have pics, just have to post them...

I love my Contour to death, but my 'vette is still my #1 baby.
There's money to be made in racing. I should know. I put a lot of it there.

You can check pics of my wiring harness here:

If you have a Yahoo account, you can view the pics full size, otherwise I think you only get a small pic. I don't know if I can link directly to them here so they appear in the thread...

They will sell individual pieces, but individually they will end up being MORE EXPENSIVE than they are in the kit.

Bill Jenkins quoted me $350 for just the fuel injection harness, $650 for all 4 harnesses.

Guess which one I ordered? I wasn't going to cheap out and just replace the fuel injection harness when the main computer/engine harness is also screwed up, who knows about the other two harnesses...

Call Bill and see what he can do for you.

BTW, this is the result of some ***hole at Ford thinking that 170F-rated insulation would work under the hood. The sad part is that the correct insulation is roughly 3/10ths of a cent per foot more expensive!!!

Ok, the repair to the wires solved the problems.
As for recalls/tsb, I looked on alldata and found none for the SVT... Over 100K anyways!

I have heard that ford had a problem with Probes in the early 90's as well. Guess they don't care when they make $1000 on the harness replacements?

themannn99 if you have a '95 and it is under 100K, the recall applies and you should get a refund. When I had 99M03 done, they told me the harness was all one piece. Were they wrong? Did you guys hear that two weeks ago, the recalled the Windstar '00 & '01 (think those those are the years) because of faulty wiring. Apparently Ford hasn't learned it's lesson.
