I have a 95 Mystique 2.5L V6. I recently replaced the water pump and flushed and refilled the coolant. At least once every couple of weeks I have had to add coolant to it. I though I had a very slow leak, so I looked at it today. Turns out I missed putting one of the water pump bolts back in when I put the new pump on. Could this cause a slow leak? Also, I have the part number for new bolts, but I can't find anywhere on the internet that has them. Anybody know where I can order them? Or should I just ask a local parts store to get them? Thanks for your help.

Interesting question, here's why:

I changed the pump on my '97 due to failure in mid-May. The manual says not to re-use the bolts.
There have been oodles of water pumps replaced on Contiques, some DIY, some Ford dealers, some others. You would think at least the Ford dealers would follow Ford's instructions resulting in large quantities of bolts being ordered and therefore in inventory, ...... wrong!

My wp was missing the short bolt at the 8 o'clock position (viewed from battery). I bought the car used in '99 so I don't know its full history, however, there was no leakage from the pump in the three years I've owned it. Anyways I go to dealer to buy 1 short bolt as I had re-installed with the original 3 long/4 short to get mobile.
Slow afternoon parts guy helpful type, checks Canadian Ford warehouse; no bolts. Checks American Ford warehouse; no bolts. Checks two local Ford dealers; no bolts. Suggests I bring in sample and he'll try to match from their odds and ends bin.

Long post, but it seems these bolts aren't being replaced and therefore you might have some difficulty getting one from a Ford dealer. I suggest leaving the same bolthole as mine empty, tighten other 7 and see if she still leaks.

Thanks for the help. I will try that. It didn't seem to be leaking, but you never know.

Turns out that wasn't the leak. One of the hoses on the thermostat housing wasn't seated correctly, so it was leaking. I reseated it, so the leak should be gone. Thanks for your help again.
