I have about 20,000 on mine and they're just as quiet as when I got them. I rotate every 5,000 or so and they still have plenty of tread-life. Maybe you got a bad set or something. Good luck

Yes, I thought of wheel bearings as well, so I switched to my winter tires/wheels and the drone went away.
Yup, I realized that I was giving up something, with the yokos, but I thought it was only performance and treadlife, not roadnoise loud enough to limit conversation. Seems especially strange since others have had such good experience with them...
Anyways, thanx for reading...

the repetitive pattern i'm seeing is that people that get slightly wider sizes on the stockers like 225's are experiencing road noise. I picked mine up in May, and put 6,000 miles on them and just got them rotated last week...i picked up 205/55 16's and they're quiet and smooth as hell, my only complaint is that on hard turns, the grip is "spongy" and soft.

I had these tires put on as as replacement for OEM KDWs. Intitially I was very happy with road noise (the description of "stealth" is appropriate). Recently replaced tie rod end (hence the alignment) about 2500mi ago. Last 1000 or so miles has seen an exponential increase in road noise. It gotten unbarable, just like Nathan described above. For example, an empty pop can in the driver's side cupholder resonates so much I can't hear the radio at normal listening levels. This sound is terrible! I have only 6 months on these tires and I got over 3 years out of my KDWs--so I don't want to replace them. Anybody have any ideas? I thinking I should complain to Yokohama or Discount tire--I would rather have my worn KDWs back at this point...
Um.. I think that they wore one way with the alignment you had now its making noise wearing off the way they are sitting. You may want to have your tow checked.

Update: With close to 28k and wear bars dead even with the tread, the ES100's are starting to drone, but not as bad as the KDW's were at this point in their lives. I've been quite pleased with the performance of these tires and will be picking up another set soon... Regards, Art

This is not rocket science. The 225's are too damn wide for your STOCK 15" wheels. Hell, they may fit, but that doesn't meant they are the best choice. I have 205/50/16's on SVT wheels and they are gold. 225's are going to make noise whether you like it or not. Sorry.

I assume your comment is directed towards me. Perhaps this is not rocket science, but I would not dismiss the problem as simply as you state it.
First, I have 16" wheels (its an SVT) but I'll just assume you made a typing mistake. Second, the Tire Rack Lists appropriate wheel widths for the 225/50/16 tire as anywhere between 6-8". My '99 SVT wheels fit within that range. Lastly, many others have had good luck with these exact tires with these exact wheels in the past. Therefore your statement that "225's are going to make noise whether you like it or not" is not true. However, I do agree with your statement that the 225s may have not been the best choice. Probably the worst part of my descision was to buy crappy Yokos when I was relatively happy with the KDWs in the first place.

He didn't make a typing mistake, you did. In your first post you state that you have 225/50/15 tires.
