i say 6.5 components in the front doors, 6x9 in the back doors, subs in te trunk, facing the trunklid, not the back seat, and bass blockers on the speakers, then concentrate on eliminating trunk rattles, cause it WILL rattle

Except we are all forgetting that our doors take 5x7's or 6x8's (which are the same thing) all the way around, you will have to cut and modify to put in 6.5 or 6x9's.
Why not save yourself the trouble and actually get speakers that fit?

I would set it up like I had in my old contour, subs in trunk, 6.5 in doors, 5.25 components in kick pods. Find or make a 3-way crossover and sell the rest. With 100 watts to each side up front and a few hundred to the subs, it would be very clean and insanely loud. There is no need for rear speakers.

There are much better 6.5" and 6x9 speakers out there than 5x7/6x8 speakers.
Anyways, how tough is it to drill 4 mounting holes through some sheet metal or cut a baffle out of some 1/2" plywood...
In the absolute worse case scenario, you might have to bust out a pair of tin snips to enlarge the hole if you want to use some of the larger basket 6x9s or even an 8" mid-bass.

Scrap the 6x9's and you have a good system. You do not want to much sound coming from the rear. THe fronts should be the focal point. Once you hear a good component set you will never want 6x9's again.
This is one of the responses I kinda expected. Not to downplay your opinion... more to validate it, really. Anyways...
The reason for the 6x9s was because I didn't WANT overwhelming bass and being the car audio novice that I was when I made these decisions, I opted for the 6x9s in the pkg. tray not knowing that the subwoofers' volume could be adjusted apart from the other speakers with the right HU.
So what I'm looking at now is what I thought I'd be looking at, unfortunately (well, sort of).
I'm planning, now, to move the 6.5s to the front doors, the subs in the trunk and the 6x9s in the rear doors just to fill in the holes.
Hopefully I can make a buck on the 5.25s, since they're still pretty much mint.
I am kind of intrigued by the idea of the 5.25s being next door to the 6.5s up front in the kick panels, but 1) that's overkill, and 2) I want to use the 4-ch for the 6x9s and the 6.5s and the 2-ch for the subs, which leaves no amp for the 5.25s.
I have another question now, but I'll save that for a separate topic/post, which I think I'll take care of right now...
