My local car audio gurus (read: shop owners) are too busy to answer these kinds of questions. Away we go... If YOU were ME. You own a pair of each of the following: Alpine Type-R 5.25" Component speakers Alpine Type-R 6.50" Component speakers Alpine Type-R 6x9 Coaxial speakers Alpine Type-R 12" subwoofers Amplifiers to power all of them. How do you arrange this setup in a Ford Contour?

While I am by no means an audio pro, I can offer my opinion. First off, I would pick the 6.5's or 6x9's for hope of richer sound. If at all possible, fit the 6x9's in the front where you can benefit the most from the sound. Then stick the 6.5's in the rear/ or 5.25's(whatever fits really doesn't matter) But obviously make sure to mount the subs pointing out of your trunk. Run some crossovers or bass blockers to your component speakers. That way you don't fry them when you turn it up. Don't know if you have sub control on your head unit? If you do then you won't have to worry too much about overloading your component speakers with too much bass. But other than that I am no good at wiring and all of that shtuff. Should sound pretty good when you are done.

I'd just install the alpine 6.5 components, and keep the subs, powered by the amps. The rest you'll never need.

Scrap the 6x9's and you have a good system. You do not want to much sound coming from the rear. THe fronts should be the focal point. Once you hear a good component set you will never want 6x9's again.

That is the first time I have read about putting 6x9's in front and comps in the back,,,

My thoughts exactly. More is not always better.
My systems generally consist of a component set up front and a single sub in the trunk. Great soundstage and accuracy (and still have the ability to be painfully loud).

I agree too. Sell the rest on eBay.
Actually, sell them all on eBay, get some better components like Adire Kodas for the front and a single Brahma for a sub.

Horrible idea, I tried that once before I had a clue, sounded like shizzle.
Put the 6.5" Type-Rs in the front doors, I have those and thay are the best of what you have listed, they are half-decent speakers. You could put the 5.25" speakers in the rear doors if you really felt the need but the Contour's rear doors kill sound. I would just as soon sell the 5.25" components. Same for the 6x9s, you don't need them. Put the 12Rs in the trunk in a sealed box.
I had 3-way components up front, coaxials in the back doors, and coaxials in the rear dash, not nice. At the time I loved it, but compared to my current setup (mids in the front doors, and transducers in the kickpanels) it sounded like ass. Use the money you get from the sale of that to buy porn or something like that.
