What is the best way to launch an SVT? I raced mine for the first time yesterday and found it hard to launch at more than 2000 RPM or so because of wheel hop issues.....I got my best time of the day by dropping the clutch at 2K but had massive wheelhop with stock differential. How fast to release the clutch?

You need to practice to find the sweet spot just before you would get wheel hop. As we all know wheel hop is bad unless you are looking to put in a LSD some time very soon. As for the rpms to launch at? I'm not really sure I'll let the SVT owners chime in. Personally though I try to launch @ 2500 rpm with some clutch slip to ease the power to the pavement. I had one of my best launches yet yesterday (only been out 3 times so far) 60=2.329sec. For the record the SVT and the regular V6 seem to launch about the same from what I've. Once the SVT gets going it goes like a bat out of hell. I should know I got shown up good yesterday. Thanks SVTCANUK. It was loads of fun.

I believe it was a steady fast clutch drop at 3000 RPM, and that caused it to go into where the secondaries open up, so everything worked out OK.

I dont remember having this kind of problem launching my 96 SE MTX, but my 00 SVT (with a quaife) has serious wheelhop issues on an agressive takeoff.
I have been testing it with a tazzo (which is like a g-tech, except it has two accelerometers and is self-leveling unlike a Gtech), and I found that every once in a while I stick on the launch and get tire spin instead of wheelhop. Further testing showed that I can get a pretty consistant 2.29 60' if I launch with the front wheels skewed just off center a little bit (ie pointed slighty to one side) -- it seems to help with the weight transfer/distribution a bit. Has anyone else noticed this or tried this? Im going to try and get it to the track amd see if it really works, but it definately seems to work from stoplight to stoplight. I can dump about 2500 into it and stick pretty good.

i have no skills when it comes to racing but...
do u just rev up to around 2-3 RPM and just dump the clutch or do u hold it at 2-3RPM and gradually let off the clutch?

I've dumped it once. Never again though. Bad wheel hop.

I think it's tire dependent, because I did a 3K dump on my csvt with an open diff on my 215/45 KDW and I had wheel hop like mad. . .I rotated tires shortly after that(I was had driven 7k on those front two w/o it, BAD SUNEIL), did the same full dump at 3k, tires squeeled with the open diff and I was just flying. . .I need to make it to a track, though, to figure the logistics out. . .now with the quaife, I'm thinking fun time. . .

At another site I found a good tip for launching any FWD.
"raise the back of your car by... over inflating tires, and buying rubber spacers to go between coils... this will help with weight transfer... cause you dont want weight transfering onto the back tires...."
"you wanna let out some air on your fronts..."
"slipp the clutch at the line, using the e-brake to hold you back, then dump and launch, very hard to do, takes tiem to learn"
