I am looking to do some horn modifications and I can't locate the horn. I know by sound it's in the vicinity of the battery area, but I am guessing its hidden under something. My dad bought me a horn that has the "ooga" sound on it. I want to add that one if I can find room somewhere because its kind of big, but I also want to change out the stock horn. I like the horn the mustangs have (or at least ours does). It has a multi-tone sound. Contour horns are just boring because they only have one tone. BTW, I have a 99 SE Sport with V6 duratec. Thanks for any help.

It is under the car, right in front of the wheel on the driver's side. You may have to take off the splash shield, if your car has one (Mine doesn't, so I really don't know). Should be plenty of room for your new horn.

Thanks for the help. I will check it out tomorrow and see what I can find. I sure can't wait to try and get it installed. Thanks again.

Earlier Contours had two horns. My 98 has two. They are probably very nearly the same as the two note Mustang horn you like.

The factory dual horns were one on each side, sort of near the fog lights. You can mount a second horn close to the original or one on each side, it really doesn't matter. Unless you order the second horn from the dealer, it is usually best to buy a matching set so that it doesn't end up sounding funny.

I haven't messed with it yet as I have been busy helping my mom who has ankle problems and I had to work on my aunt's lawnmower which was in horrible shape. My dad helped and we finally got it tuned up and running good. Anyway, hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday I plan to take a look at it and see what we can do. I want to get the multi-tone horn like the mustangs and I will ask the dealer if one of those is the same as the one I already have and see which one(s) I need to order. I also want to the "ooga" horn so it can operate independently. (I'll mount a separate button somwhere inside.)
One other mod I am considering, but trying to decide if I want to spend the money on is dual exhaust for my Contour. I would love the extra power and noise that I would get from it, but not sure if I want to spend the money. It has been recommended that I get the Borla system. Does anybody know how that comes out at the end? As in does it come straight through the back bumper or does it come out underneath like the current one? I have seen SVT's that have them come through the bumper I think.
I didn't realize that there were contours with double horns. The only ones I have heard beep have the same as me. I have heard other cars with that same single tone horn, but they aren't too bad. The ones I hate are those wimpy Japanese horns. I used to have a Mazda truck and I couldn't stand the way it sounded. I felt like a weanie when I beeped at somebody. What I really need is a train locomotive horn for my car. Now THAT would get me some attention. Sorry the post got so long, but its raining out tonight and I am bored. Thanks for the help everyone.

So visit your local Pep Boys and get a matched pair of "Freeway Blasters". 132 decebles. About $15.00 each. They will both sound nice and be loud enough to get you noticed. It won't break the bank either. They will sound a lot like the Mustang horn you are talking about, but louder.

The SVT dual exhaust is a bolt up onto your car with the exception of needing to fabricate a right side rear hanger. It will hang below your rear bumper. Check the CEG classifieds. You can nearly always find one available there.
