Yep, the W2 and W5 were designed for ported applications, you can still get the T/S on JL's site

Regardless of certain dealer support, JL has done a very good job on building a reputaion. They do make pretty solid products and the dealers that can move them stay happy because there is a good margin because of the reputation.

yep W5s were the best in that time
I still have 2 12W5 and power by rockford 150hd in ported box and they sound very very niceee and very loud too....I still love it from the day I bought until today

Spec-wise, they weren't the best at the time. They were just the ported equivalents to the W1 and W4.
