So, I went to a local shop to see if they had any specials on JL Audio. They no longer carry JL either! I can't find anyone in town that does. The guy starts talking about Boston, which would be OK if they sounded all right with my other JL stuff, and wanted to see my car. I have kind of a ghetto looking subwoofer setup. Its an 8W3-D4 in an old (10 years) Clarion powered tube enclosure with the onboard amp bypassed. The tube is beat to hell and looks like I dug it out of the dumpster. He starts talking about making a custom enclosure and blah, blah, blah. I have it running off the rear channels of the JL 300/4 and the front channels power XR650-CS. My head unit is the ES MP770. "Lets hear it", he says. I love doing this! Turn it on and it starts playing Tom Sawyer by Rush. His jaw hits the floor. "That's just that 8? Nah, you've got something beneath the carpet!" I had to show him the spare tire before he would believe me! Ah, the power of JL!
Anyway, why doesn't anyone carry JL anymore?

A dealer is going to stop selling any brand for a few reasons. One, is if it isn't selling there's no point in carrying it. Two, if there is no margin in the product and he's not making money. Three, if the distributor is difficult to deal with, perhaps with bad credit terms, or poor turn around time on warranty repairs. Its all about money and wether they can make it in their market.
There are plenty of JL dealers out there. JL continues to release new amps and subs each year pretty much. Their new W7 and W6 lines of subs are excellent. And their amps are really quite nice, they just released a lower priced line of amps this year. As with most upper end products they are priced accordingly, some of that price is paying for the "name brand". But most of it is for the quality of the equipment.

In my area, JL Audio is the best-selling subwoofer brand in Tweeter - it's mainly the W0 series, but it's JL nonetheless.

I think name and marketing is a bigger piece of the price pie than you think..

I dunno, man. I've never heard a set of 15s as accurate as my old 15W3D4s.

i bet a lambda PB 15 would outdo your JLw3's! I bet also that my Stryke AV's would smoke em too.
