My 98 Contour is developing the onset of rust on the trunk.
There is the start of a small paint bubble on the lower right
exterior of the runk. It is almost directly above the right
side trunk drain hole.

I have taken the liberty of checking out other 98 and 99 Contours
I've seen in parking lots and they all seem to have the
exact same problem in the exact same area.

I have my car spray undercoated (dripless oil/wax mixture) each
autumn. I always make sure the drain holes remain clear and unobstructed.

Question?

How coomon is this problem in other areas?

Thanks

I've painted a few Contiques, never noticed a rust problem. My '98 has no signs of this. I even went and double checked! laugh

notice how this other guy is from kansas...

Common in Montreal. Mine is rusted on all the cheap ass folded seams at the bottom of the doors and trunk(where is the sealer? probably playing with the glove box lights and the supportive seats...) Plus mine has had a ziebart rust proof treatment. Did not help for the seems. Hoping it will help for inner door rust...

I agree Mangler. The seams at the bottom of my doors are bubbling also. I suppose it's a fact of life living in a heavy road salt area.

The is the first time I've experienced a paint bubble in such an unlikely spot. This one is visible from the outside trunk skin. Hopefully the rust proofing will delay and actual hole in the sheet metal for a few years.

I've been running a bead of clear silicon over the seams of the doors and drunk. It seems to resist waters so far. Hope it lasts.

Indeed. Sometimes I forget my days in Michigan and my poor rusted out '89 Supra. frown Anyways, for what it's worth, we aren't rusting here in America's breadbasket. laugh
