I've been noticing that the steering in my 96 SE seems to be getting more loose now that the car is getting up in car years (90k miles). Would replacing the power steering pump correct this? Does anyone know how to fix a loose steering condition?

98 Mystique LS v6 atx 110,000km
97 Contour LX v6 atx 125,000km
stock CD on LS, cass on LX
spoiler, tinted windows on LS only
4 wheel discs on LX only
All other available options on both

Don't forget Ball Joints and control arm bushings can cause this too.

These are wear items, replacement only (about $25 each plus labor), followed by alignment.
From your posts, however, I would recommend you get a front end inspection and see what sort of problems a shop could identify.
