Well, ya know, in all honesty, if the student WANT these separate dances, who are we to say they are wrong? We don't know these ppl. Maybe the blacks don't want whites at their dance or vise versa, who cares, it's THEIR dance. Let them do as they wish.

who's to say that they are right and that high school students know what's good for them? i know that i required a lot of guidance in high school both academically and socially. and i don't know of anyone who didn't need some kind of guidance in tough situations. this is a tough situation and it is the parents' and the school's responsibility to set these kids straight.
what's next a separate dance for gays/heteros, men/women, blonde haired/brown haired???

having a seperate prom? why...it doesn't make sense when have the school is half black
its not like they live in a rich neighborhood where the majority is white and they can't really do anything about it...but half the damn school is black, thats weird
the school might as well have seperate bathrooms, drinking fountains, and teachers...what kind of example is that setting
but whatever...if they wanna have their little thing then let em have it...shows the progress we have made in the south

why are there black colleges and no white colleges?  and if anybody wants racism to go away, the only way to make that happen is to stop classifying people by race. i see justs as much racism from blacks on whites, to whites on blacks, to chinese on whoever.... just trying to say racism doesn't come from just one race.

nobody ever said it was on one race
the reason there were even black colleges in the first place were to give blacks an opportunity to go to school. If you wanted to go to a black school right now you could do it, there are no such rules saying that could not attend, the schools just happen to be majority black.
There is a big difference between the two situations. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your race, there is a problem when you don't want your race to integrate with other races.
That breeds hate...be happy to be whatever race you are and be loud about it for all I care, but when you encourage segregation and hate then there becomes a problem.

I never said anybody said it was just one race on here, though they say it elsewhere. I know I COULD go to a black college. there is a black college where I live that would PAY me to go there. But I wouldn't, first of all they have gotten requirements lowered because people going there (white and black) can't pass. Second, I ate in their cafeteria and a roach crawled into my shoe.  I do find it strange that they can label themselves as BLACK COLLEGES, but no college could ever label themselves as a WHITE COLLEGE. Not disagreeing with you on your third point. But like I said, as long as we have RACES, we'll always have hate and racism. Think about it, it's human nature. And without the word RACE in sense of skin color than the word RACISM could not even exist. I know we'll always have race, but that means we'll always have racism, it's just a fact of life that we have to deal with.

it depends on how you were brought up. i didn't even notice color/race until i got into high school. and come to think of it, i was never racially profiled until i a certain person from NC who was in my class called me "that Puerto Rican kid" (i am not Puerto Rican, btw.) this same kid and many of his friends would often refer to other people as "colored" or "ni--ers".
i am not trying to generalize...just an anecdote from personal experience.
