Yes, it was rooted in racism, but that time has long passed for these kids. They continue to do it because it's simply makes sense to please almost everyone than pleasing damn near no one.

actually, i DID read the article from last year. i admit that i don't remember all the details, but my impression then was the same as it is now...utter disbelief.

and i agree, this whole scenario is rooted in racism, and by not encouraging both parties to have a party together and COMRPROMISE on what music to listen to, what decorations to use, and what clothes to wear, these kids will never learn how to function in a civilized society. life is about compromises. and any school-related/sanctioned dance or party or meal or field trip should be organized so that all the kids are given the opportunity to interact with each other.

and please forgive me, but do you REALLY think that when the kids were interviewed they were completely honest in their responses? i seriously doubt that. i think that they have been separated for so long that they have become accustomed to it. but guess what happens when one of them breaks from the mold and goes to school or finds a job in Chicago or Boston or Albuquerque or Miami or New York....CULTURE SHOCK! and these kids will not be equipped to handle it. it is the responsibility of their parents and their school supervisors to ensure that these kids learn about moderation, learn about compromise, learn about cultures, and interact with other races/creed/interests both in an outside of the classroom.
