FURTHERMORE!!!!!! how do YOU know that black kids don't listen to Garth Brooks or white kids don't listen to 50 cent? you don't. this separation is based on SKIN COLOR ONLY. not the kids' interests. and it doesn't keep the kids' interests or social growth in mind.
Um, maybe because I read the actual article, complete with interviews of the kids. Not this biased blurb that not only doesn't tell you the whole story but lies about a great deal of it.
Of course some of the whites like rap, and some of the blacks like country. And guess what, they went to the "other" Prom. This wasn't a forced thing. The kids came and went amongst Proms as they pleased.
It hadn't a damn thing to do with skin color. This mini-article made it out that way, but it's not. It's not a "Black" and "White" Prom, it's a "Country" and "HipHop" Prom more than anything.

and this is OK? isn't "school" about LEARNING? how are you going to learn anything about someone else's beliefs or interests if you don't interact with them?
A Prom is not School. And you cannot force people to like someone else.
Do you ever go out to Clubs or Bars?
If you do I bet there's bars and clubs you do like and some that you don't like. You go where you like the atmosphere. Different clubs cater to different people. They're making 2 proms that cater to different people rather than 1 prom that caters to no one.
Ask a graduating senior what they thought of their Prom. A vast majority will say: "It was alright, but they played too much of XXXX and not enough XXXXX type of music."

if they CHOOSE to separate themselves at the same dance for one particular year, does that mean they'll do the same thing next year, and the year following that? maybe, but how will you know for sure unless you free the kids of such and assinine barrier like segregated dances.
I understand that you didn't read the article from a year ago, but did you at least read what I wrote?
The kids have done this decades. Last year was the first, and only year they decided to try out an "Integrated Prom", mainly because they were short on money and couldnt' afford 2 Proms.
They tried it, didn't like it, do they're going back to the old way. And it's hasn't a damn thing to do with Racism.
Yes, it was rooted in racism, but that time has long passed for these kids. They continue to do it because it's simply makes sense to please almost everyone than pleasing damn near no one.
