ALBANY, Ga., May 1 2003; A year after holding their first integrated prom, some students at Taylor County High School have decided to again hold a separate, private party for whites only. WHILE MANY whites say they still plan to attend next week's integrated prom, the decision to hold the whites-only prom this Friday saddened senior Gerica McCrary, who helped organize last year's dance; the first integrated prom in 31 years in the rural Georgia county 150 miles south of Atlanta. Until then, parents and students organized separate proms for whites and blacks after school officials stopped sponsoring dances, in part because they wanted to avoid problems arising from interracial dating. This year, a small number of white juniors decided they wanted a separate prom. The school has 439 students, 232 of them black.

Force the south to secede?? Sure, while you're at it, why don't you force the NAACP, ACLU, and anyone else who has the right to express their opinion to secede from the US as well.
So you got a group of ignorant white kids acting stupid, so long as there's no violence, who the hell cares. Let 'em have their "private party" and watch them dance to Mary J during it. Whooopdeedoo.

i'll try to hit 2 sides of this issue:
1) if they had an "all-black" dance, we would never even hear about it.
2) if we spend 10% of the money we just spent liberating Iraq on liberating our own people, we'd be much better off. the fact that people even THINK along separatist lines sickens me, let alone act on it and get away with it. and that goes for any organization: black, white or otherwise.

Well if you look at the population data, the South (and West) is growing rapidly; and yet we're all just a bunch of backward hicks...?  And Ed, when are you going to take off the Bert and Ernie underwear and actually DO something about society's ills? Considering your ratio of "auto-related" posts to "the-US-sucks-and-here's-another-reason-why" posts you obviously spend some time pontificating on the issue. Your "hit and run" scheme does nothing but reinforce the notion that while you possess the ability of higher thought you lack the impetus to do anything with it other than whine. The world needs leaders, not another critic.

This is 2003 folks! And this type of bullchit is still going on. I'm not that surprised, but I am dissapointed.
It seems like we were making some progress at least by getting the flag changed down here, but this type of sh*t reverts everyone back to the jim crow days.
...and the only reason there is a seperate integrated/black prom is because those bigots don't allow inter-racial dating and blacks weren't allowed at the white prom. What kind of bs is that?

First off, I still do own a '98 Contour SVT. Just because I own one does not mean that my topic of conversation must be restricted the car, alone. The world is much bigger than the confines of my vehicle's engine bay. Secondly, I love the USA...so much so that I will make my voice heard at the ballot box and any other avenue where people are willing to listen, and, third, Socrates was the ultimate critic of ancient Greece and its many social injustices. Yet his dissenting voice....his strength of character, is why his name is known today - 2400 years after his death. Critics are as essential as leaders in a democratic society.
