It isn't bad. Most Zetecs have a fairly rough idle and no probs with the trans.
My car does it as well and always has sence I got it back when it had 34k on the dail.
But what about the part of shifting in to neutral and back into drive so often? Is this wear and tare to be any concerned of?

Shifting to neutral should harm it at all... in matter of fact is actualy easier on the tranny even AAMCO says that plus it will help keep the car cooler BUT you must wait for it to shift completely before hittign the gas or that can cuase soem damage!

Well its a bit off the subject, seeing that its a 97 GMC Safari and all, but one of our work vans has 426,000 miles on it and is still runnin' the original trans, no BS I'm in charge of preventative maintence and do a trans service every 30K. I'll do a complete fluid exchange, drive 30K and then just replace the filter, gasket and replace about 4 quarts and then drive another 30K and so and so forth. PREVENTATIVE MAINTENCE & a good trans cooler is the key

The filter is not serviceable in the CD4E. Just change your ATX Oil, and have a cooler installed.

Because they have no experience with a Contour ?
And they probably don't know the correct way to service the CD4E transaxle anyway.
