Personally I though a little brighter light would have highlighted the embossed pattern a little more as well as showing the impeller remnants in a "better light".

Edit:
On second reading "remnants" might be too complimentary, let's change that to "remains".

Are there any years that are immune to this?
Does it plague all year contours or just 95-98.
I have a 98.5 with nearly 60k on it. I'm begining to be afraid to drive long distances but I have to for work.

Check my signature. My engine overheating due to a water pump failure is an extreme case, for sure, but my troubles could have been easily prevented. Just say no to procrastination ....

after changing my waterpump The whole thing, it's the so-called stainless steel cone fastening method to the aluminum housing that is suspect. Staking is not the best way to fasten the cone to the housing. The original was done much better than the new one? (Mine must have been made on one of those so called good days?) So I re-staked it. Original impeller was just like new 98 built 07/97 (the car). Brand new pump from the dealer complete w/ rubber hoses connected $ 122.51 including tax @6.25% At least I know were it stands, cheap insurance.

Terry How about stainless screws???????????
