Today at 70300 miles I joined the imploded water pump club. I had just raced a WRX which by the way I lost to, but not by much, when I looked at my temp. Way past the red. Scared the $hit out of me. Took it in today and got an estimate for 250. Is there a metal impeller or a stronger one that I can replace the other with. And have any of you other people that suffered the same problem had any heat stress problems with the aluminum block and heads?

yes there is a metal impeller one that sells for roughly $60 I believe.. (someone correct me if Im wrong) and the actual process really isnt that hard, there is a how-to and it took me and my dad together a total of maybe an hour to do. Not worth paying $250 IMHO but then again, if its something I can possibly fix on my own I do, b/c I hate having dealerships touch my car.

The metal impellar waterpump at NAPA is sold as a Dura Pro. The part number is 125-1910, and it is, in fact the one made by GMB, and comes with the gasket for less than $50. Most NAPA stores can get it the next day.
