The codes come from the diagnostic computer. You can get the codes scanned at many auto parts stores for free. If you write down the numbers and post them here someone will be able to give you advice on the cause(s), how to repair, and cost. The knock part does sound scarry though...  Duratecs are normally pretty quiet running. You can check the meaning of the different codes out here
