I am trying to fix my cruise control. IT does not engage. I thought the problem was the resistors in the steering wheel (I have the values of all of these somewhere, if anyone is interested). I don't think it is wired the way it shows in the Haynes manual. The manual shows the ON button is in parrallel with the horn, the horn being a short, and the on button having a series resistor. At the module, I found the horn button, but I found in the steering column, the resistor connections works, but the horn is a seperate wire. I have a 95 made in 11/94, maybe it's different then later ones.
Anyone know what else to check, short of replacing the whole thing?

I can't really help with the problem but I had no cruise control on my 95 Mystique built 8/94. The best thing to do is get the ford manual for 95, it tells you the test steps to find out what is wrong so you can fix it. Most of the steps are taking readings from the plug into the unit under the hood. I was able to swap units with my fathers after testing to conferm this was the problem then I got one from a wreck

Ford wiring manual for '97 shows the same. Horn buttons usually provide ground for horn relay via a clockspring or ground brush in steering column.

Do not understand what you are saying in this latter sentence.

BTW someone else posted on this subject recently, you may wish to review:

Thanks for the input. I was away in Europe for a few days, so didn't get to respond sooner.
That previous post on the subject was also mine.
I'm taking a road trip in a couple of weeks, so I will give it another try to figure it out.

Oops! My computer must have been on cruise when it did the copy and paste, it didn't note the topic starter.

Please clarify that sentence when you get a chance.

I too am dumbfounded by the circuit (if it is in fact correct), and unfortunately the Ford wiring manual does not give descriptions of circuit operation. The service manual does give diagnostic steps but only to determine if switch, module or wiring inbetween is at fault. If I get a chance I'll review for relevance and post findings later this week.

I'm not sure what needs to be clarified. However, I found that the wiring I tested does not seem to match the schematic. I need to get back under the hood & poke around some more to sort it out.
