NO BRAINER here, 9005 (high beams) Silverstars installed into the low beam socket. Just file down the little tabs so they're flat and thats it. The difference is amazing and you WILL NOT blind any oncoming drives, unless your headlights aren't aligned properly, so don't let someone tell you otherwise This is the best $40.00 you can spend because these lights put out a bright, white light and don't let the light blue/purple color of bulb fool you, they're really, really white

Where is the best place to pick up Silverstars? Do they come in twin packs or single packs?

I've been looking all over the place for a deal on them. The local stores want about $25/ea for 'em. The cheapest place I've found is Kustomkarparts.com . They specialize in custom lights and have the bulbs as cheap as I've been able to find 'em. The bulbs also have a $10 mail in rebate if you get 'em before 6/30. I e-mailed the contact for the site and confirmed that their price is for a pair! I'm gonna get a couple sets of 9005s on the way before too long. I might have to order a set of 9007s for the Mustang while I'm at it. Shawn

Without using the 9005 bulb in the low beam socket, do the silverstars still make a big differance?

Probably not enough to really justify the $50 cost. Even with 9005's I hardly feel the lights are as bright as they should be.
It's just an all-around better idea to use 9005s in the lows and is a harmlessm easy-to-do mod.

Then you have never seen them in person. I was the same way until I put them in.

NoNo, LoCoZ, you misunderstood me. I've done the 9005 Silverstar mod.
He was asking if he could get away with using 9006 Silverstars instead of the 9005 mod.
I just added that I don't see why you would want to pay the same price for 9006s as 9005s and get less light, when, IMHO the 9005s still don't put out as much light as I would like. I don't think the 9006s would be as much of an upgrade to really justify spending $50.
Hopefully a set of fogs or driving lights will fix that problem for me in the future.

Just for laughs I took a set of Hiper 9005 bulbs I bought off of Ebay awhile ago and tried the "swap". My impression?? Imagine shining a flashlight into a bunch of mirror shards....that's the best description I can think of. Maybe somethings up with my reflectors on the stock headlight housings, but that's what the beam pattern (if you would like to call it that) looked like. Yes, there is more light, but it is very unfocused and VERY scattered!! I put my 5100k 9006 bulbs back in, and decided that I am quite happy with those (and the 885 fog upgrade).
