Just got done installing shifter cables on my 98 SVT, and I just want to warn anyone who is considering this replacement to beware!!!! It took me 8 hours and I used to be a mechanic! Although it can be done without removing the transmission, I had to remove the center console, pull up the carpet, remove the shifter box and finally cut the old cables to get them out. Although it can be done successfully, I wouldn't recommend it to the faint of heart.

My symptoms were only getting 3rd and 4th gear, plus a really sloppy shifter. The cables are only about $65.

1. 5th gear lock out???

2. The reverse lockout is a slide piece that is attached to the shifter and contacts the shifter tower if not lifted.

1 is non-existant & neither 1 or 2 is related to the cables.

Yes the cable R&R is a big PITA...
