Da symptoms:
Well, about two months ago I installed a drop-in K&N pod air filter in my SVT. Around this time also, I noticed my car was slightly louder with what I would describe as a droning noise. I usually listen to the radio pretty loud so it hadn't bothered me too much but lately I've been noticing the noise has seemed to have gotten louder. Upon further inspection I noticed that when I turn right, the droning stops. The drone stays while driving straight and vering even slightly left. A slight turn in the other direction and the drone stops.
Other things I have noticed--The noise only seems related to the speed of the car. When I rev the engine the noise does not rise or fall and no change when I depress the clutch. The noise is speed sensitive in relation to the speed of the vehicle.
I was under the car a week ago and I have not noticed any exhaust problems but I didn't inspect it thoroughly. If it was an exhaust problem it would rise and fall with the engine speed.
The K&N air box is sealed properly and there are no leaks. I don't notice any clunking in the car either since I suspected something mechanical like a wheel bearing and my wheel alignment is perfect with fairly new tires. No vibration in the steering wheel but I do notice NOISE induced vibration when the droning gets loud enough. Tomorrow I plan on jacking the car up and giving the front left wheel a tug to see if it is indeed tight with no slop but so far I am at a loss of what the problem is.
It's not a whine, it's a drone. What the hell is it?? Thoughts?
