I am planning on getting the vortech for my 2002 Cougar, but I am curious, am I going to need to get new headers? I have the msds shorty headers but I saw on there site that there are a different set...Is this correct or will the reg msds headers work?

One of the pipes on the front header interferes with the jackshaft on the vortech, so they have a different front header that has this pipe bent slightly different so that it will clear. So you will need the vortech spec front header. Maybe if MSDS is feeling nice, they may sell you just the front one.

Hahaha. Good luck. I recomend selling the set to an N/A Contour/Cougar and getting the new set. The stock header works. You could perform the mystery mod and be almost happy.

You can also take a torch and dimple them yourself to fit past the vortech shaft.

Thats a really good idea! It would save money and with forced induction it really shouldn't hurt anything.

Hehe, thanks Tom. I actually talked to Marty at MSDS about it when I was getting my 1.75" Dia headers made up. He warned me that I might need to do some torch work to make them fit. As it was, those things snuggle up to the block so well I had 1/2" of clearance!

Yeah, I saw the pictures of those things and they are a work of art!

Oh well, not gonna fit on my car.
