Just an update:
I'm putting the engine back together tonight. I honed the cylinders and I'm installing the pistons.
I ordered a DMD, Spec stage3 clutch, Torsen LSD, clevite 77 rod bearings, all new Zetec MTX 75+ shifter rods. I hope to have the engine back together by Friday mid-day and installed on saturday with sunday reserved for the little crap.
OH Yeah, I got some more parts for the intercooler too!

Still married! I bought her a Saturn ION in February so she couldn't say anything about me and my car! lol To date over the last year and a half, I have put about 8K into the car, some of it on credit which sucks. But I really don't want any other type of car right now since its faster than anything else I could afford, and its really fun to mod. This is it though, I just want it together with a good safe tune and then drive it for fun. Kinda like Kinger was after, only a little more aggressive. Tom

By hand. Till they looked good.
The bores seem to range from 88.939mm -> 88.989 mm at the top of the cylinder. I don't have the correct kind of telescopic gauge to measure the bores down deeper in the cylinder so I really don't know what percentage of taper they have. I installed the largest pistons into the bores that I had to hone more, and the smallest pistons into the bores that I honed the least. It seemed the most logical thing to do. Why? Is it bad to hone them that much, or should I have honed them more? Don't tell me anything bad now....

88.989 - 88.939 = 0.05mm / 25.4 = 0.001968 inches so you are talking about 2 thousands of an inch.... i surely wouldn't be worried... i would bet that's still within engineering tolerances

Much better than stock.
1. that seems awfully cheap.... actually so damn cheap i would run away from it... at that price i can't see them being anything but cast.
2. why am i under the impression that our OEM pistons are sinter forged.... or is that just the rods?
Hypereutectic - much better than stock, but no not forged.
They can support 400HP without a problem. That safely covers all but the baddest of the bad. It's also a significant upgrade over stock and for cheaper than stock. Price was an issue!
So go run away and leave them to the rest of us...
2. umm... That's just the rods. The Stock pistons (2.5L & 3L) are simple cast. Not hypereutectic.
The SVT pistons may be hypereutectic??? Anyone know for certain?
OK, not to drag this up from the dead......
BUT ( ), I have a balanced 3L with 90mm Speed Pro pistons w/ about 9.75:1 CR, stock rods, upgraded tri-metal bearings, accusump, ect. With War pushing for the limits on OEM pistons, what is a reasonable target for my 3L as far as boost? (I have a Garrett T3/T04E .57/.63 BTW)
I'm breaking in @ 3.63 psi now, but once I'm able to crank up the boost..... is 12 psi within reason for my street tune?
(I realise this is more of a FI question, but this was already in the database and is in need of updating some of the info within)
