give it a good 15-20 psi (that is, if the crank can hold up...) can you say fastest SVT contour. EVER

Bigger? The turbo he has is capable of roughly 50 pounds per minute. Do you really think he needs more than 400 wheels?

Speed Pro Hypereutectic Coated Skirt Piston - H662CP - $23.55 each (that's under $150 a set)

Much better than stock.

that seems awfully cheap.... actually so damn cheap i would run away from it... at that price i can't see them being anything but cast.

Well, the Vulcan listed has a different part number, but you never can tell with these places. I only use Rock auto to find the part numbers, then use my contacts to find me the deals using those part numbers. Usually they can confirm whether or not the part number is correct once they look it up.

As for the Vulcan pistons, they have a different rod pin diameter. Since the rod pin diameter is listed on the Rock Auto site, just check yours against what they have.

The stock pistons seem to do fine with an intercooler, and they're cast hypereutectic?

Ouch!! No good. IMO go with new Forged pistons. The Hypereutectic's are ok but in no way are they as tough as a forged piston. Hypereutectic's do not take to well to boost or N2O.

Looking at the plugs and valves shows nothing but a lean color of white to me. The intake valves would be that color too if it wasn't for the amount of fuel flowing through. I would look into it being lean more then you think!! Upon re-assembly maybe it's time for some baseline dyno pulls with a/f?!?!?!

Nobody's questioning how much stronger a set of forged internals would be, rather how much is safe to run on OEM type internals with a good tune.

Personally, I think the turbo puts to much stress on the stock internals, eveident by it's much stronger low RPM torque readings. Adding an intercooler just makes it that much stronger throughout the RPM range of the engine, increasing that load.

I also think you were several pounds of boost under what the stock pistons could take with a proper wide band O2 dyno tune, even without an intercooler. I still say you were lean on your burn because of the white color. It doesn't matter how new the plugs were, the color is wrong.

What would I do in your shoes? Rebuild the engine with new OEM internals and never plan to see the high side of 9-10 psi. If you wish to go higher, rods are the first weak link (so long as the tune is good), then pistons, then the crank. The crank limits out about 450-500 HP with a good balance, knife edge, and cryo treating, which is where Buckshot plans to be. Going above that would require a $3,000 billet steel crank, but then you're probably inching up on the limits of the block design itself anyway...

why am i under the impression that our OEM pistons are sinter forged.... or is that just the rods?

Hypereutectic - much better than stock, but no not forged.

They can support 400HP without a problem. That safely covers all but the baddest of the bad. It's also a significant upgrade over stock and for cheaper than stock. Price was an issue!

So go run away and leave them to the rest of us...

2. umm... That's just the rods. The Stock pistons (2.5L & 3L) are simple cast. Not hypereutectic.
The SVT pistons may be hypereutectic??? Anyone know for certain?
