Hey folks!

I traded in my silver 98 SVT Contour this past week on a left-over 2002 SVT Focus at Campbell Ford in Ottawa.

They in fact did better than the price that was advertised recently by some Toronto area dealers, and gave me what I thought was pretty good money for my trade-in.

Needless to say, I'm going to miss my Contour. It was an incredibly fun car to drive.

I only got to know a few Ottawa-area Contour owners personally, but still always felt like I was part of a family of sorts, here on Contour.org.

I'm going to stay tuned to what is going on in the Contour world, as someday I still hope I can pick up a low mileage example of a 99/00 SVT to store as a museum-piece and weekend ride.

First impressions of the SVT Focus: HOLY HANDLING!
Power? Don't think I'm down much from the 195 in the 'Tour.
The Focus IS slower to spool up from idle to, say, 2000 rpm, but just past 2500, it produces decent torque.

I can't pass anything close to final judgement on flat-out acceleration as compared to the SVT 'Tour, as for at least the first 1000 km (car had 57km at delivery)I'm at a self-imposed 4000 rpm maximum.

If anyone has any knowledge of what websites to visit for info about the SVT Focus, that would be a HUGE help, as I'd like to find out as much as possible about the new ride.

Cheers!
Ray

Well you've done what has been on my mind this whole week. I possibley even have a potential buyer for my Mystique. I just can't stand the thought of being in more debt when my Mystique is runnng like such a top right now (410km on the first third of this tank). Either way there is a serious itch to see what this holy handling is all about. I tested one once but had the uptight sales guy in the car with me so.....No testing sadly. Granted once you open her past the self imposed 4000rpm limit you should be pleasently surprised. It pulled well for me up to 6000rpm (didn't want to piss mister dealer type guy off).

Congrats with the new machine.

Holy crap!

Hey Ray..I'm moving back to Ottawa tonight (temporarily anyway). I got a 3 month contract at a company in Bells Corners - we'll see if it becomes permanent or not. I'll give you a ring soon for some golf and a ride in your new compact car

I'm not bashful about revealing some numbers, so here goes.

Focus, $20,805 plus freight and assorted [censored] charges.

7 year, 150K KM Premium Care warranty with $100 deductible, $1,500 (discounted a measly $80).

SVT Contour trade in (just under 111,000 km), $8,500.

My old 'Tour was on their website Friday, even before I dropped it off.

Price? Call dealer.

A buddy at work called and asked, and they told him $10,980, would he like to come and see it???

Anyhoo, I'm happy with the new ride. Just got to get me better acquainted with what it's all about.

Just from briefly surfing the FocalJet website, I'm already aware of tire problems with the OEM Continentals (premature sidewall cracks, tire already discontinued, something with cruise control, and seems alot of PCM issues relating to idle quality and stalling at idle...

Oh well, just like any other car, I'm sure it'll have it's quirks as well as its grin-inducing good points!

Good for you Ray! Looks like a good deal. I might have to take one out for a test again. How many did they have left?

Hi Phil,

I think they only have 1 base model left, a red one with over 300 hard test-drive km's on it.

Otherwise, I believe there were about 4 left that had either all options, or sunroof & audiophile packages.

I could be a little low in my estimate, but I think they're moving them off the lot quickly enough. Finally!

It's a really sweet ride, Phil.

We Contour and former Contour owners should get together sometime soon this Spring!

Cheers
Ray

Set something up. I'll wave as I drive by trying to stop with my bad brakes!

Hehe...thanks Rob

The Focus folks are mainly in FocalJet - Team Canada . Just gotta weed through some of the post wh0ring on there at times.

We have a few folks out that way, and some SVTFs as well. Drop in that portion of FJ and say hello!

Oh...word to the wise. If you are planning to take it back to the dealer for servicing, please be cautious.
