Oh...word to the wise. If you are planning to take it back to the dealer for servicing, please be cautious.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN??

Let's just say this particular dealer hasn't been highly touted by members on our board:

Bad review

This is coming from a few vocal members though.

I just bought your old car!

Damn it! I wish I would have read this thread last night. Oh after all that negotiating at least I got an OK price.

Can you tell me about your (my) car?

Should I be worried about the transmission?

Thanks!
Greg.

Hi Ray,

I have always had good luck with the guys at the fastlane there, and when my steering rack went, they were super nice about it, and gave me excellent service. OK, they didn't bolt the air dam back on, but it took 5 minutes of my time and they left me a free pry bar in the engine bay, so I figure the trade was even

I was shocked at their sales staff. They tried to tell a friend of mine that the SVT Focus was supercharged. After the second time, he corrected them. The sales staff I dealt with there were arrogant, not knowledgeable, or both, and took a very adversarial tone. They are just as bad as Bank Street Mazda.

How did you know that your rack had gone bad? My Mystique just got me wondering. When I'm at full turn the effort gets rally easy which is something I don't remember before. If it is on the way out I'd like to address it in the next 1800kms as that is all that is left on the warranty.

Mine started groaning quite loudly during turns and losing fluid.

Ahh I see. The only time I ever had a bad rack it got what my mechanic called morning sickness. Steering effort would become hard intermitantly. It actually went away eventually to my surprise. I don't have the groaning nor fluid loss. Such a shame I love taking advantage of my warranty.
