Two updates to give to my fellow citizens of the wonderful commonwealth..... 1) Went to have my car inspected today, and have some info pass along to you guys. First of all, thank god the place I take my car to for inspections is staffed by gearheads!! There was a number of issues they could have failed me for right off the bat, but they were like "If you get stopped, YOU put these mods on AFTER we inspected the car, OK???" 1) KKM- It is now illegal to modify your intake system as it "interferes with the emissions controls".....their words, not mine 2) high Wattage bulbs are a no-=no (I think we all knew that anyway) 3) Window Tint- I was 2% over and they told me that most police Depts. have light meters in their units that will crack down on this.....no more than 35% on any of the windows!!(my "dark" tint is on the back windows, not the fronts) 4) Another item I asked him about- aftermarket exhausts. He just smiled and said that any exhaust not installed as part of a "factory package" is illegal. I asked about replacement exhausts, and all he could say was that is was up to the discretion of the inspecting station whether or not violated noise laws, etc. Another FYI for all you Mass Gun owners!!!! If your Class A is about to expire CALL YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT AS SOON AS YOU RECIEVE YOUR RENEWAL!!!!!!!!! Like a dumbass, I waited until today, figuring I could just walk in and get my renewal done and over with.....no such luck!! It turns out that many departments take a dim view of these licenses, so they make your life miserable to renew it. My department here told me that I couldn't just walk in and renew, I actually have to meet with the freakin' Chief of Police before they will renew it!!! Sooooo.....Now I had to make an appointment for next week, which means I now have to try and get time off to get this done!! Tough s**t for me if I can't get time off, they won't give extensions in MA, either!!! I even called the Firearms Bureau in Boston and was told "It is up to your licensing authority to decide how you file for the license". I was also told that there are some departments in the State that process licenses ONCE A MONTH!!!!! So, don't wait until your license is almost expired!!!!

Who the hell cares if an intake "interferes" with the emissions controls...which, by the way, I think is preposterous! As long as it passes the fuggin test, who gives a rat's-ass! I gotta get my car inspected...uh oh...this month! Which is almost up! Crap...I gotta get my E-brake fixed 1st too! CRAP! I swear I'm brain-dead sometimes... I swear, the people making the laws and regs that restrict car mods flat out SUCK!

If only we could transplant the legislative of Arizona for that of MA, we'd be stylin!
Emissions?! HA! "Does the car give off thick black smoke? No? Great. Seat belts hold you in? Brake lights? Good to go."
"Oh, your Class A expired this month? Let's just give you a new one, no questions asked... would you like a box of .45ACP to go with that? How about some 5.56 rounds for that new AR you just bought?!"
And... how in gods name would an altered intake designed to let MORE air through interfere w/ emissions?! Would it not be cleaner?!?!?!?

If we had a Senator like John McCain in MA we'd be stylin too...

umm....i doubt it. i don't think that is true. i think they, although you say they were being cool, they were being picky pr*cks that 99% of any other inspection stations in MA would give two monkey poops about.

2) high Wattage bulbs are a no-=no (I think we all knew that anyway)
how in the blue moon, would they even be able to tell what kind of wattage your pulling? no way. so i guess HID's are illegal? nope.... again, being picky pr*cks. As long as the ALIGNMENT of the bulbs meet requirements, and they WORK, you are fine.

ahh yes. tint. something i'm very familiar with. 35% is the state maximum percentage for window tint...on ALL windows, in this state. However, EVERY cop, no matter on a good night or bad, will tell you straight out, that they will NOT waste their time with anything that close. They are cracking down on cars such as mine....5% in the rear windows....if they can't see inside...they're gonna get ya eventually. Even inspection stations will only measure the tint if its REALLY A LOT DARKER than 35%. Again, I say, picky pr*cks....

iirc, the state inspections does NOT include noise measurements from the exhausts. That is a police judgement and depending on where you live, some cops are more strict than others. I have the Borla....they gaurantee their exhausts will not violate any noise laws. If you get ticketed, they will foot the bill. This dude was obviously being a picky pr*ck. Don't believe MOST of the words this guy spoke....I suggest going to another inspection station next year.
Please don't take this as a complaint or a b*tch towards you cause trust me, it isn't. Its against the inspection station you went to and the "words" he spoke to you. Its absolutely STUPID some of the things he said. If the emissions are good at the exhaust level....you're fine. end of story. don't listen that guy.....
later.

I have 3% on back and back sides (and no tint on left window and 35% on the other) I hope they dont get me for that It would suck to have to take it off, i have had it for almost 4 years and love it. Plus it keeps the sun out of my daughter's eyes maybe i can get a note for her doctor if they wont let it slide... Matt

Not exactly right.
Here in New York STATE, there is a law going into effect Januaty 1, 2004. If you have BLUE/HID lamps installed, without HID lenses, the BLUE/HID bulbs have to be replaced with the correct bulbs or fail your inspection.
No mention of wattage, just color and type...

CT has a similar law that can carry heavy consequences. If an officer pulls you over for suspected blue headlights they simply use a white piece of paper held in front of the lamp with a blue light meter measuring the reflected light. If the blue light output is over a certain limit, BAM, you get one of the following, a citation to report to motor viehicle safety inspection with-in 30 days; (no longer in effect since safety inspection faclilities are now closed)operating a blue light without perimit; or impersonating a police officer (figure that one out)
