Justin Rempe whined: It's up to people like us to educate the people who don't know about cars, not just bash them for their lack of knowledge. I'm all for educating those who are educatable, but there are times when you really have to take to heart the old cliché about trying to teach a pig to sing. Someone who will carelessly allow his car to run almost dry of oil is not ever going to learn to properly respect and care for a fine car. Such as that is not fit to own or to drive a Ford. A car such as a Contour SVT (or any Ford for that matter) deserves an owner who will properly maintain and care for it; not some idiot who will quickly trash it through grotesque abuse and neglect. That's what Hyundais, Daewoos, Toyotas, Nissans, and Hondas are for.

Spammers will be dealt with very harshly!} ------- Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX. No mods. (Well, OK, one mod. Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

Could you be a little more specific re location of leak. Left side of motor normally interpreted to be driver's side on RWD, which becomes the side closest to rad on FWD cars. Common places for leaks are front of motor where serpentine belt/pulleys are located, valve covers or oil fiter. Presumably to keep your warranty valid you are getting oil changes at recommended intervals and keeping proof of same.

Well Bob, unless God died and left his job to you, it's not a decision that someone as petty as you gets to make. And since you're clearly not omnipotent, then you have no clue on the basic teachings of human behavior that a decent society like ours just happens to have. When they wrote the freedom of speech clause into the constitution, they obviously didn't have the idiot factor in mind (unlike most of todays legislation), because if they did, you sir, would have no such liberties. In short, learn some manners, rethink your entire existance, then post again. I'm done ranting now.

Bob, stop being a judgemental D i c k. No one appreciates that, and it doesn't help the forums. This guy was just asking a simple tech question, not asking to be flamed because he didn't realize his oil had dipped a little low. No need for all that useless BS. If you can't answer this cat's question then just don't post, or go rant somewhere else about "morons" as you describe. The SVT is nice car, but its just a car...people use them as transportation...not everyone has a freaky affinity to them requiring them to perform a daily one hour inspection. Jerk.
Spec 23:
I have heard of the oilpan bolts working loose causing a leak from the oil pan gasket. Also, if your positive crankase ventilation valve is not functioning, the resulting internal engine pressures could have caused a valve cover gasket to fail. Finally, Fords in general are susceptible to main bearing seal leakage as the seal wears or if too much oil is put into the motor. Every ford I've ever had has had a leaky main bearing seal after a certain mileage.

That's what Hyundais, Daewoos, Toyotas, Nissans, and Hondas are for. They are also for being worth more than your beloved SVT five years after being purchased. Jerk. Go zaino something... Spec23- don't worry about him. He is the minority. I would suggest checking the oil when you fill up with gas. May seem a bit much but the amount of oil your car is burning tells you a lot about its state of tune.
Kharma is very real and she is one mean b!tch.
