No oil will kill the thing. How long since you last checked it? Like if you changed the oil, then drove 10,000 miles before realizing it was down to 2.5 qts, well then you may be burning some, which wouldn't be the end of the world (hell, mine burns about a qt every 1,500 miles which albeit not a good sign, ford considers it "normal").. Just keep an eye on it..
