My brother is turning 15 on 05/06, and I would like to surprise him with a new deck(he snapped his old one and the trucks are done). I would prefer to purchase it online if possible, I don't have to have it until 05/10. I would rather buy it from an established online shop than e-bay, and I am looking to spend between $0-125 . He is still sort of a beginner, and is not really concerned with a "name brand"(Birdhouse, World Industries, etc) deck or wheels(blank deck/wheels would do, just good trucks). Any suggestion of where and what to purchase? Thanks!

EDIT: Anyone have a good used board for sale? Probably wouldn't hurt for him to have a backup.

ah my knowledge on this board finally has a chance to shine uhh either utilityboardsupply or activemailorder is the place to buy completes from, maybe even jaysboardshop (search google yahoo for all 3). now since he is a begginner. the best thing to do would be to buy a blank from say utility board supply (ubs) they have their own blanks which are around 25-30 and i think they might also be on sale. also you can make your own "custom" complete so you can browse around and select what you would like to buy. trucks arent that big of a deal if you are begginer or not, they come in two sizes really hi's and lo's, when he gets more into it say in a year or so then the choice is his really depends on what he likes but this early it doesnt matter, go with the cheapest trucks, probably venture (size 5.0, thats how long they are from each end of the axles). wheels arent a big deal, dont get them TOO big, or TOO small, perfect size really is around 52-53. bearings ehh not that big of a deal i would go with whatever ones they give you for free, probably quickies, not bad and it gets the job done. griptape - jessup. uhm...risers dont get any, it doesnt do anything at all. hardware, doesnt honestly matter go with shorty's. if you need any mor ehelp reply here or pm me. i am a very experienced skateboarder and have been skating for almost 4 years. also tell your brother to visit our web site, www.westskate.com heh i had to put a plug

Active Mail Order is a great shop, plus free shipping on orders of $89.99

Besides the board, get him a pair of Nike Dunk SB's so he can truly be a pimp, playa, hussla, straight up balla!

the deal is dead brutha. they went outta business. uhh stick to my choices....since he is beggining a name brand deck means nothing. the majority of companies run the same board shapes etc bc there are 2-3 distributions that run all the decks for the companies. and the guy talkin bout the nike dunks...i hope your kidding please....im not going to rant about huge companies trying to make money off the popularity of skateboarding, it pisses me off

IIRC when my brother went to purchase his first "real" board(Mom paid for it...lol) he had to have a Tony Hawk Falcon 2 complete, cost $120, within a week you couldn't tell what it was. He learned a lesson at mom's expense unfortunately. I have heard him mention wanting a blank board and wheels, and tensor(SP) trucks.

hmmm let me think here... My first board ( I was 13 years old) Was a World Industries Deck, Grind King trucks (I know Indys are good, which I debated myself, but I figured eventually with skill and time I would switch to Indys, GK's are lighter...) and I had Spitfire wheels. (I think they were 58's, I can't remember why I got them that size...) I always wanted the Lucky's bearings, but that was not offered as an option when I got my custome complete...

Ya know what's funny, I still have my board, it's actually in really good condition, the trucks are grinded a bit, and the graphic is scraped off a bit (from an ex-boyfriend) My board has a of "pop" if ya like that sorta thing, it's very light.
I got it from CCS, but there is a nice local company here called Freedom skateshop, they make all the Nor-Cal stuff.
It's based in Ukaih, California. that might be too far away for you?
Thay have nice blanks...

Sorry to ramble, just my $0.02
LOL

Hey, I skated in the mid 80's around '84 on a Uncle Wiggly's deck, Tracker UltraLites and Bullet wheels. And yes, we all wore Vans back in the day.

Don't get me started on the popularity of skateboarding, it's been around a LONG time and since I don't skate anymore I enjoy pimpin my Dunk SB's for comfort and straight up good looks.

Its good to have NIKE promoting skateboarding and infusing the competitions with money. More power to em! Plus there shoes look good, ES, DC...... YUCK!
